Law Society Pro Bono Services Internship
Legal Aid offers academic year courses (fall and spring semesters) as well as summer internship opportunities for law and undergraduate students. This is pro bono representation for needy defendants who cannot afford a lawyer and face non-capital charges in a Singapore court, regardless of their nationality. Summer 2022: Legal Aid is currently accepting applications for internships in summer 2022 (Reception Unit). All other internships for summer 2022 are now filled. In the winter of 2018, Legal Aid partnered with Harvard University to offer “Winterships” to Harvard students. The Winternship allowed students to accompany staff for 1-3 days during their winter vacation in January, giving them the opportunity to observe court hearings and ask questions. It provides participants with hands-on experience and educates students about the work the Legal Aid Society does to serve New Yorkers. Students can volunteer with Community Legal Clinics (CLCs), the Pro Bono Ad Hoc Program (AHPBS) or the Family Justice Support Program (FJSS). All internships give students insight into the legal aid ecosystem. If possible, students can also attend community legal clinics, which are held in the evenings at community development councils. The Legal Aid Society offers exceptional legal rotations in civil, criminal and juvenile law. We also participate in career fairs and conduct on-campus interviews at local and national law schools. This is pro bono representation for litigants who are not covered by existing legal aid plans but require assistance due to exceptional circumstances. The Potter`s Place Community Services Society (PPCSS) brochure is the result of collaboration and engagement with various criminal justice stakeholders, such as the PGC and MGS, with the ongoing and strong support of the Department of Justice.
The brochure will be distributed to community clubs and police stations across the country, where it will soon be made available to the public. The booklet is now available to those arrested or taken for questioning in police stations. The Law Society hopes to make it available in as many public places as possible.
