WICHITA, Kansas (KSNW) — The Kansas State Fire Marshal`s Office says bottled missiles and M80s are illegal and extremely dangerous in Kansas. Restrictions: It is illegal to buy, possess or unload: sparklers, fireworks, torpedoes, celestial rockets and Roman candles. Only snappers, snakes, toy guns or sticks with caps are allowed. Possessing, selling and unloading fireworks without a permit is illegal. Fireworks are legal on Memorial Day weekend, Flag Day, July 1-7, and New Year`s Day. Restrictions: A permit is required for the sale and display of fireworks. Bottle rockets are not allowed. Restrictions: Not all aerial fireworks are permitted. Opening hours: Fireworks can be used from 1 to 3 July from 10:00 to 23:00. On July 4, fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. to midnight. “No fireworks over six feet and no fireworks marked as `firing hot bullets` are not allowed,” said Jose Ocadiz, chief of the Wichita Fire Battalion.
Of the 207 injuries reported by fireworks in Kansas in 2018, men ages 9 to 34 were the most injured population, according to the 2018 Kansas Fireworks Injury Survey. Men accounted for 64% of the total number of injuries. Almost half of the injuries involved children under the age of 18. Injuries to the hand, eyes, face and head have been reported, among others. That makes sense. Clay County: Although fireworks are allowed in unincorporated Clay County, not all cities follow the same time and date restrictions. Other cities do not allow fireworks at all.
